Breastfeeding and Your Diet

During the time you breastfeed it’s important to continue to follow the healthy diet you followed during pregnancy. Focus on eating foods that provide plenty of protein, calcium and iron.

It’s also important to drink plenty of fluids to ensure you stay well hydrated when breastfeeding. Try and drink at least eight to twelve glasses of water a day. Things you should try to cut back on or avoid altogether are caffeine and alcohol, as these substances can get into your breast milk and harm your baby.
