Talking to Your Teens About Sex

Most parents of teenagers dread having the sex talk. But making sex an "off limits" topic may actually pique their interest more and cause them to experiment without the proper knowledge about what they're getting themselves into Here are some tips on how to talk to your teen about sex:

First it’s important not to lecture your child and be prepared to hear things that you may not agree with. If this is the case then just calmly ask questions; to get a better idea of why they feel the way they do. Also if you are candid about your own feelings around the topic of sex, it will help your teenager feel more comfortable and make them more willing to discuss their feelings. Most importantly listen to your child and don't interrupt! If you're constantly cutting them off, they'll feel like you're not hearing what they actually have to say.
