Breech Birth

If your baby is born feet first during labor, this is called a breech birth. The easiest way to tell whether you'll have a breech birth or not, is by undergoing an ultrasound.

Having a smaller fetus, more than one fetus, or an unusually shaped uterus can cause the baby to move in a breech position

A breech birth can put your baby at risk of getting its head stuck in your pelvis during labor, or your baby may have trouble breathing if it comes out feet first. To prevent this from happening, your doctor may perform an episiotomy to give the baby more room to pass, or your doctor may perform a C-section. To learn about the other risks associated with a breech birth, consult your doctor or midwife.
