Contraceptive Sponges

The sponge is a disposable contraceptive, usually made of foam and infused with spermicide and is inserted into the vagina. It prevents pregnancy first by blocking sperm from entering the uterus and then by absorbing and immobilizing sperm.

Many women love the fact that it can be left in place anywhere from 12 to 24 hours. The sponge is about 82% to 91% effective in preventing pregnancy. But there are a few side effects. The sponge can tear and can also cause yeast infections.
