Maternity Leave

If you’re pregnant and working it’s important that you know about maternity leave and how it works. Maternity leave refers to the time an expecting mother takes off work during or after their pregnancy. Expecting mothers are allowed a total of 12 weeks unpaid leave within a year of giving birth.

Most women also choose to combine their maternity leave with sick leave, vacation pay, and personal days. It’s important to notify your employer about your pregnancy as soon as possible to discuss maternity plans. Some employers may also ask you to provide a medical certificate. But be rest assured that when you return from your maternity leave you will be back to your original job with the same status, benefits and pay.
