Risks Of Maternal Asthma

If you are an asthma sufferer, you may be concerned about the health of your unborn child. When managed carefully, maternal asthma doesn’t pose any risk to your child. However, uncontrolled asthma can cause some serious dangers. It can increase your risk for example of having a premature birth, preeclampsia or a low birth weight baby. This is due to the fact that women with uncontrolled asthma often have lower levels of oxygen in their blood which means the baby isn’t receiving enough oxygen for proper development.

In severe cases this can result in the death of both mother and child. The best way to keep your asthma in control is by taking asthma medications which are perfectly safe during pregnancy. Just make sure to speak with your health care provider first before taking any medications.
