Treating Postpartum Depression

If you have postpartum symptoms that last for more than two or three weeks, it’s time to seek some professional help. Here are some treatment options your health care provider might recommend.

First joining a support group is a great idea. Being able to talk to other women that are experiencing the same things you are is always reassuring. Recent research shows that Antidepressants and talk therapy combined can also be very effective in treating postpartum depression. Also don’t be afraid to ask or accept help from others. Friends and family will be more than willing to do anything they can to help you to a speedy recovery.

Take those extra few minutes when the baby sleeps to rest or nap and don’t worry about chores-they can wait. Also try get out of the house with your spouse once in a while and go out for dinner or a movie. And eating a well-balanced diet is always a good idea, especially for postpartum depression because it can help to elevate your mood and general sense of well-being.
