Vitamins During Pregnancy

Growing a baby is hard work - and your body needs the right fuel to do the job! Starting a prenatal vitamin even before you're pregnant ensures your body is the right environment for a growing baby.

Make sure to look for supplements that don't contain more than the recommended daily intake, since some vitamins, like vitamin A, can be toxic to your baby in high concentrations.

Important supplements to look for are calcium, vitamin C, and folic acid.. Omega-3 is also important for brain and eye development of your baby, and it could help to ward off depression. Your need for iron doubles in pregnancy, so make sure you're getting enough of that as well. Ask your doctor to recommend a prenatal vitamin based on your needs and eating habits. Eating a healthy variety of fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat proteins is also a good start.
