Halloween Safety Tips

It’s that time of year again when the little ghosts and goblins come out to trick or treat. With all the excitement of getting dressed up and getting candy your little ones sometimes forget some important Halloween safety rules. Here are some tips to help you to keep your kids safe during this fun time.

When choosing a costume look for bright fabrics and decorate costumes with reflective tape so that drivers can see your child at all times. Also make sure the costume is labeled "flame resistant" and to prevent falling avoid costumes that are longer than your child’s ankles. Use face paint on your child if possible instead of a mask because masks can block your child's ability to see.

Children should always be supervised by an adult making sure to stay in well lit areas and only visit homes that have their outside lights turned on.

Before your children eat their candy, make sure you inspect it. Throw out any treats that are not wrapped, or any that have small holes in the wrappers. To make your home safe for trick or treaters remove all objects around the outside of your house that could cause children to trip or fall.

Remember these tips and your and your child will have a safe and fun Halloween.
