Anemia and Pregnancy

The most common cause of anemia in pregnancy is iron deficiency. Even if you weren’t anemic before you got pregnant, you can still develop anemia during pregnancy.

Your baby won’t really be affected by anemia as you will run out of iron long before your baby does. But ignoring the problem can cause serious risks to your baby.

Women need about 15mg of iron per day but when you’re pregnant your body needs double that amount. Eating red meat, spinach and dried fruits are great ways to get iron. And drinking vitamin-C with these foods increases the absorption of iron. So if you’re feeling overly tired and weak these could be symptoms to anemia so make sure to see your doctor right away.
