Public Breastfeeding - A Personal Story Part 2

Midwife and mother, Carolynn Prior shares with us her recent awful breastfeeding experience at a local YMCA. Carolynn Prior was nursing her five-month-old son at the Scarborough YMCA when she was approached by a staff member and asked to move to another area in the facility to breastfeed. Carolynn refused to leave on the grounds she had a right to breastfeed there but after a long exchange of words in front of other parents Carolynn had enough and left.

Following the incident she decided to file a human rights complaint. As of today the YMCA has still not responded to Carolynn's claim as they are required to do by law and have also not agreed to come to the mediation date. So Carolynn has gone forth and organized a nurse-in at the YMCA to petition the Y to create and enforce a global policy on breastfeeding at their facilities. For information on where and when the nurse-in will take place visit Carolynn's blog for details www.mothernurture.wordpress.com
