Infant Feeding

See a breastfeeding video here. Some cases when breastfeeding is not a good option include when there is a serious maternal illness like kidney or cardiac disease or serious infection such as active tuberculosis.

Some women are concerned about providing sufficient milk supplies to adequately nourish their baby and, in some cases, multiple babies. However, it is very rare for a mother to produce insufficient milk supplies, and the best way to ensure that baby is properly fed is to closely monitor her feeding behavior. Newborns should gain beteen 4 to 7 ounces a week following the first four days after birth.
